What is
Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is often grouped with massage therapies, but technically, it is not a traditional massage. Instead, MLD is a specialized medical and therapeutic technique focused specifically on the lymphatic system. It is a gentle, hands-on therapy technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage the natural movement of lymph fluid throughout the body.
It uses light, rhythmic, and precise movements to help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support the body’s immune and healing processes. Unlike traditional massage, MLD works on the surface layers of the skin and does not use deep pressure.

Benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage
-
Support recovery after surgery, including plastic and reconstructive procedures. Speeds recovery by reducing swelling, bruising, and discomfort.
-
Reduce swelling caused by lymphedema - Helps move excess fluid from tissues, making it ideal for post-surgical care or chronic swelling.
-
Support detoxification and immune function - Encourages the removal of metabolic waste and toxins through the lymphatic system. Improved lymph flow enhances the body’s natural defense mechanisms.
-
Cancer survivors - Particularly those who have had lymph node removal or radiation therapy (with medical clearance).
-
Decrease fluid retention and inflammation - Especially helpful for clients experiencing fluid buildup or puffiness.
-
Those experiencing fluid retention or inflammation - Such as from prolonged sitting, travel, pregnancy or certain medical conditions.
-
Improves circulation - Enhances the movement of lymph and blood for overall wellness.
-
Calms the nervous system - The slow, rhythmic movements promote deep relaxation and stress relief.
-
Supports overall wellness - Helps clients feel lighter, less puffy, and more balanced.
Important note:
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) should be performed by a trained and certified therapist, especially for medical conditions. Some conditions may require medical clearance before treatment.
